What I’ve been up to.
I grew up in Wisconsin and was inspired as a child by my great-aunt Kia who would come to visit each summer from far away Spain. She fascinated me, and from a young age, I was determined to speak Spanish fluently because I wanted to know the world like Kia did.
I received my Bachelor of Arts in Comprehensive Latin American Studies from the University of Wisconsin, Eau Claire, and one year of my studies was at the University of Oviedo, Spain. Then, I earned a master’s level certificate in translation at the University of California, San Diego - Extension. Now, I am a Spanish (Latin American) and English (US) translator, interpreter and transcriber with 24 years of experience. I have lived in different countries to study and work, including Mexico and Ecuador.
My native language is English and I am fully proficient in Spanish. I mostly translate from Spanish to English; however, some work is from English to Spanish. When I am not translating or interpreting, I am transcribing. And, when I am not transcribing, I am learning new skills or working to improve my linguistic skills and cultural awareness. Lastly, I maintain an active membership in the Midwest Association for Translators and Interpreters (MATI) and the American Translators Association (ATA). In my most recent project, I translated a 3-page divorce certificate from Spanish to English.
